AIPEAD HistoryLike the majority of colonists, Erenio Tola arrived in the Yungas region and found himself overwhelmed by the lush vegetation. It was difficult to open space in the jungle. Nevertheless, thirteen years ago he and his wife made their own destiny and began to cultivate coffee. They chose this crop because it was suited to the altitude of the land where they had arrived. In 2007, he heard about the specialty coffee competition and began to dream. Last year I made plans and I worked hard. Everything was ready. I hired harvesters so that my product would be good. I worked on the processing. Erenio was overflowing with the emotion of winning thirteenth place. He told us I feel so happy I want to cry. I thank the sponsors of the event, whom God carries in his heart, who have made it so a humble peasant can rise up, can manage his resources well, can fix or build or maintain his house with the price that he will win from the competition. I am so lucky. For Erenios family, this victory will improve their lives. He plans to build a house, improve his production and save part of what he earns so that his children can continue studying, especially his oldest, who is twelve, and has to live alone in the region of Taypiplaya because there is no secondary school in the colony.
