Romário José Fontes has been a coffee producer for 6 years. Together with this wife, Marli Lavigne Hohlenwerger Fontes, he acquired the 15-hectare farm. Seven hectares are devoted to coffee. It is located in the region of Chapada Diamantina, inBahia, and produces the varieties Catuaí and Catucaí. They continue to produce coffee with much care and dedication, following the guidance of agronomist Glayco, who is today the city’s Secretary of Agriculture.
Varieties Catuaí and Catucaí were selected for being more resistant to pests and for having good productivity.
The objective is to produce coffees of the highest possible quality as the market absorbs specialty coffees for a much higher price than commodity coffees. The producer states that each year he endeavors to produce the best specialty coffees with the quality that the international market desires.
Everything has changed as the coffees rated as the best in Brazil go to international auction and provide a price that would not be possible if they were sold on the Brazilian market, thus providing the family with a better quality of live.
