History of the farm
The property has belonged to the family for 46 years, when it was acquired by Mr. Genesio T. Tomazini, the family patriarch. Today the farm is managed by Mr. Valdeir Dalcin Tomazini, Mr. Genesio Tomazini’s son. The production system is familial agriculture. The owner is an Italian descendent whose family arrived in the region around the year 1900.
The climate in the region is high-altitude tropical (CWB) with a temperature around 19°C (66°F), decreasing at higher elevations; rainfall reaches 1700 mm/year (67 in/year).
The family is concerned about the preservation of springs, forests and fauna in general. We cultivate thinking about preserving the soil, managing the forests and controlling erosion. The farm has pesticide depots, which are used conscientiously and according to technical recommendations.
The family is embedded in the community, participating actively in all activities (social, cultural and religious).
Coffee processing system
The harvest is done selectively, passing through the fields about 4 to 5 times, picking only the ripe beans, keeping them in raffia bags, which are taken on the same day to the huller. They pass through the washer / separator, descend to the huller where the coffee is de-hulled, following to the pulper and then are immediately taken to the suspended patio and afterwards to the covered patio (greenhouse), where they are raked at least 10 times per day. After drying is finished, the coffee is stored in well-ventilated, hygienic granaries on the property, each lot being traced and separated. The entire process is done by the family. The hulls are taken the next day to the fields and used to complement the fertilizer, the wastewater is deposited in settling tanks, and the entire process is licensed by the competent state agency. The property has 2 houses, in which the family lives; 2 granaries; 1 separating washer; 1 huller; 1 pulper; 2 covered patios (800 m) and 1 suspended patio.
Concern about quality
Since 2002 the family has been investing in and working toward a product of differentiated quality, participating in contests at the city, state and national levels, and in all of these events, it has stood out. An example of this is that it has won the state contest twice. The family is increasingly concerned with improving quality and has encouraged other families to begin this same work. It continuously receives technical visits from municipal (City Hall) and state (Incaper) professionals, in addition to from Pronova, which is a coffee grower cooperative in the mountains of Espirito Santo, in which the producer is a member and supervisory board member. Every year, a soil analysis is done and the producer seeks to correctly follow the recommendations and guidance, with the certainty that only in this way will he obtain even more success in his very beautiful work.
