NAME AND LOCATION OF THE FARM:
Farm La Escondida is located in El Pinabete, municipality of Mozonte in the department of Nueva Segovia. It is an eco-forest Farm, surrounded by mountains and wildlife, it is handled personally, is environmentally friendly and does simple, traditional but functional processes, we give a proper management in what the fertilization, pruning, and regulation of shadows, also we process the pulp making compost and once ready rejoins the coffee plantations.
TELL US THE FARM HISTORY:
The Farm was acquired in 2006 (9 years ago). With a total area of 7 manzanas of land*, with 6 manzanas of land productive areas and an acre with mountain. The seeded areas consist of 5 manzanas of land with Red Cuati and an acre of Maragogype.
The generation of my family was livestock but I personally decided to grow coffee as an uncle invited us to buy into this mountain and encouraged us to plant in it, and to date I have 20 years of working with the farm. The first property I bought was farm La Santísima. Currently we work together with the family and the people we have working in it. My family is made up of 5 members.
WHICH IS YOUR SECRET FOR WINNING THE COMPETITION?
We clean process started with cutting the proper degree of maturity, and give them between 14 and 18 hours of fermentation this depending on the weather, we try to improve every year forever maintain quality.
HOW DO YOU FEEL OF BEEN ONE OF THE WINNERS?
Thank God I won 18th place in this contest 2015, is a reward for our perseverance and hard work we do every year.
IN WHAT YOU WILL BE INVESTING PROFIT TO BE OBTAINED FROM ELECTRONIC AUCTION?
With the money I get from selling my specialty coffee we will invest in improving the infrastructure, to provide better conditions for people who work on the farm, and continue to improve each year the management of coffee plantations.
HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN THE COMPETITION BEFORE? HAVE YOU WON PREVIOUSLY?
I participated seven years and have won five times, in 2007 got the place 21, 2008 13th place in 2009 got 17th place in 2011 and ranked 7th in the 2015 contest got 18th place.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CUP OF EXCELLENCE PROGRAM?
I think it is a very important opportunity for each small producer because that way we are promoting our farms worldwide, has come to help customers around the world know our coffees and make contact with producers in exchange producer the buyer and vice versa.
