ABOUT THE REGION
Burundi is a land with great coffee tradition. Its high altitude, thousands hills, volcanic soils, & abundant rains offer the ideal conditions for the production of exceptional & very exotic coffee. In Burundi there are no large plantations. Coffee is in fact grown in small family-owned farms and cherries are traditionally brought to the nearest coffee washing station.
The region of Ngozi from which this coffee comes from, is in the north of the country, near the border with Rwanda. Ngozi province might not be as renown as the neighbouring province of Kayanza but it definitely has its share in the high quality Burundi an coffee.
ABOUT THE WASHING STATION
The washing station of Nkaka was built in the late seventies. It collects the cherries from well maintained micro plantations located on the surrounding hills. The station has been UTZ certified since 2012 which has improved substantially the level of which plantations are looked after in that area.
In the cup, this coffee has good yet balanced attributes.
