Overview
This producer has over 50 years being involved in the coffee industry; he started working with his father who had 2 or 3 manzanas of a coffee plantation. He had his own farm at the age of 16, together with his brother Mario Salazar. After getting married he decides to continue business with his wife and children. They started using creole varieties, which he started changing little by little for the ones he is using right now, like caturra, Villasarchi, Villalobos, Catuai and some catimores.
The plants are different ages, from the ones he sow 30 years ago to the last sow last year. Nowadays his farm is 10.5 hectares, from which 8.5 are for coffee. He also has a cypress plantation for Christmas trees, beans and also some field for cattle. The farm is divided in different lots, called El Plan de Arriba, El Plan de Abajo, el Lote de Aaron, and La Ladera, being this last the one that has showed the best quality cup. For the third year this lot has been presented to different cupping competitions, always being in the top places among the best Costarrican coffees. This is the best prize to effort, dedication and tenacity that the producer and his family have shown throughout the years. The coffee was mechanical washed and sun dried.
