Close to the road that leads to Marcala La Paz, is the village of El Matazano in San Pedro de Tutule, La Paz, where El Matazano´s farm is located it is property of Francisco Castillos who was born and raised in a coffee family.
Since childhood he used to accompanied his father in all the activities of coffee production and processing, his father inherited his first plot of land where he could plant their own farm, from that day Francisco is fully dedicated to coffee production and has been increasing gradually his heritage.
He produces the Catuai and Lempira varieties in separate farms, in COE participated with the variety Catuai, the experience that Francisco has taught about coffee quality, begins with nutrition, so it has a program of combined fertilizer based on chemical and organic fertilizers, rust control is done by pruning and preventive applications of fungicides. His farm has a variety of shade trees species such as Inga and combining Guajiniquil with bananas and fruit trees.
Francisco is committed to the environmental conservation on his farm. Within his farm has a spring that protects and where the entire community uses the water for household consumption.
Although he had already participated in COE without much success, it is the first time that Francisco gets a place in the event, he is excited and motivated to continue working as we finally could see that their efforts will be rewarded.
