ABOUT THE REGION
Burundi is a land with great coffee tradition. Its high altitude, thousands hills, volcanic soils, & abundant rains offer the ideal conditions for the production of exceptional & very exotic coffee. In Burundi there are no large plantations. Coffee is in fact grown in small family-owned farms and cherries are traditionally brought to the nearest coffee washing station.
The region of Ngozi from which this coffee comes from, is in the north of the country, near the border with Rwanda. Ngozi province might not be as renown as the neighbouring province of Kayanza but it definitely has its share in the high quality Burundi an coffee.
ABOUT THE WASHING STATION
The wet mill of Rugori was built in the late seventies. It is located very close to the Kayanza province. This year the station will be UTZ certified in order to encourage the farmers to look after their plantations and to be able to pay them a premium for their cherries. In the cup, this coffee has a very bright acidity and offers a perfectly balanced profile.
