Overview
This farm is the property of the Salazar Castro family and is located in Llano Bonito of Naranjo, in the Central Valley coffee region. It is set at 1700 meters above sea level. This farm was a dairy farm for a long time and in 1983 Mr. Guido Salazar changes the pasture land to coffee plantations and let his wife Maria Elena Castro manage the farm. As a coffee industry aficionada Mrs. Castro fell in love with the coffee world since she was a little girl where she learned to harvest and produced coffee on her grandfathers farm. Nowadays Mrs. Maria Elena is still in charge of the coffee family business producing very high quality coffee selecting them by lots and variety, having the support of her husband, sons, daughters and grandsons.
The lot for this years Cup of Excellence comes from the Los Portillos lot on the SALACA farm. It is a caturra variety and was harvest on the 5th and 6th of March of 2012. It was processed at the Monte Brisas micro mill, mechanically washed and sun dried for 14 days on African beds. As part of their friendly environmental development and conservation they use all the sub products from the mill on the family dairy as food for the cattle and fertilizers for the pastures.
