Sibu Coffee Exporters is a husband and wife owned company established in 2014. Owners Keder Hassan and Hayat Iyassu, have more than 25 years’ experience in the coffee sector as local traders and exporters.
The company owns 40 hectares in West Guji zone, Hambella Wamena woreda, Oromia, and has a washing station in Dami Dabaye kebele, and natural dry processing stations in Banti Nenka, Haro Sorsa, Buliya, Buku Abel, and Wamena kebeles. In addition, the company works with 99 outgrowers on 633 hectares. Altogether, the company collects 1.2 million kilograms of red cherry, and produces 240,000 kilograms of natural dry coffees annually.
The company works to assure the quality by supporting outgrowers with technical training and farming materials. “We encourage women in coffee. We provide training and promote their coffees,” said Mitiku Fufa, Sibu Coffee’s export manager. They also support schools in their farming communities, by providing books, and clean water.
“We stayed in the coffee business for years, and to be included in this online marketing and auction makes us very happy. It encourages us to produce quality with quantity,” added Mitiku.
