For more than 26 years, Mr. Régulo Gerardo Ureña Chacón has dedicated his life to the coffee production, activity learned by his father and that he continued after buying this farm 25 years ago. Out of their passion for coffee, Mr. Régulo with his wife Isabel, and sons, Ricardo, Mario, Esteban, Luis y Tatiana, started their own micro mill, Café Rivense del Chirripó S.A., where all the coffee is 100% sun dried.
They wanted a sustainable production, so they let the pasture areas regenerate and then they planted coffee. They kept all the native trees of the region and planted fruit trees that will feed the birds. They have protected the water springs by soil maintenance practices and for the last two years have received the Ecologic Blue Flag award.
Located at 1600 m.a.s.l., between two very important mountains, Cerro de la Muerte and Cerro Chirripó, this region has prove to be ideal for specialty coffee production. Cerro Chirripó is Costa Rica 's highest mountain.
