History
I am a 40 years old coffee grower. I was born in the municipality of Oporapa, Huila. My wife is Yolanda Pena, we got married almost 20 years ago. We have 5 children: Fabian, Franky, Alejandra, Melissa and Marcela. We are currently in the program of foresters (keep forests) family. I started working as a hand picker and after several years traveling to different areas of the Colombia n Coffee Belt, I saved the money to buy 2 hectares from my fathers farm. I currently have 10 hectares in the farm and I am committed with the quality. I was already in the winners during the first Colombia n Cup of Excellence Competition in 2005. At that time I was ranking 19th.
Environmental Care
My farm is Rainforest Alliance and Fair trade Certified. I always have been committed with the adequate manage of the environment, the land and the residual water. I protect the native forest in the farm, I also plant native and shade trees, specially close to the water sources.
Coffee Processing Information
The farm has its own natural sources of water which is used for the washing process. The pulp is decomposed to be used lately for fertilizing the crops. As a cultural tradition, I only pick red cherries and I depulp the same day of the harvesting.
