Overview
The property was acquired from Mr. Paulo Carvalho in 1978, and is located in the region of the Serra das Cabecas [Das Cabecas Mountain Range], in the rural zone of the Municipality of Araponga. The property has a rough topography and its soil is rich in organic matter. The annual average temperature is 18ºC, at altitudes varying from 900 to 1,200 meters. The farm borders with the Brigadeiro Mountain Range State Park, and approximately 25% of its area is covered by native forest, where there are four water sources.
Coffee processing system
The beans are picked manually, in order to generate more jobs. After the coffee is picked, the beans are washed, and then transferred to the pulper. The water used in this phase is totally recycled, using a decantation tank. Subsequently, the beans are taken to dry in cemented or suspended terraces, where they are divided according to quality. After the quality selection, the lots are maintained separately in warehouses. Concern with quality Jose Antonio Nascimento Ribas is always looking for new ways to improve the quality of his coffees, from planting the nursery trees to harvesting. He is a member of APCEA - Associacao dos Produtores de Cafes Especiais de Araponga [Specialty Coffee Producers Association of Araponga] (specialty coffees produced above 1000 meters of altitude), which has courses and lectures for its associates to improve the quality of their coffees.
