Overview:

San Joaquin has belonged to Pacas family since 1905, bought by Alfredo Pacas grandmother´s grandmother, Petrona Palacios de Diaz. She named this farm after Senora Santa Ana´s husband, who is the patron saint of the city where Pacas family is originally from. This farm, along with others that are very close by, has taught them how to work the land, respect the environment, and love the coffee it produces. Alfredo Pacas, head of F.A. PACAS Y CIA., owner of San Joaquin. He remembers that his great grandmother, Petrona, used to tell him that she had received the land with only 17 hectares of coffee. She had decided to grow more, struggling against the difficulties it implied. San Joaquin has very steep slopes, and she had to travel in wagons pushed by ox in order to supervise the plantation and harvest. San Joaquin rises to 1,684 meters above sea level at the Ayeco mount, canton Buenos Aires, on the north eastern part of the Ilamatepec volcano. This volcano belongs to the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, considered one of the most important coffee regions in El Salvador . We call it “the farm of the morning sun”, due to it´s location, the trees only receive natural light before noon, which makes an exceptional and natural way to slowly ripen the coffee cherries. It´s total area is 40.6 hectares of which 30.8 are used for coffee growing and 9.8 are left as a natural cypress forest, which provides a habitat for endangered mammals, birds and reptiles. San Joaquin ´s production is carefully processed at our mill: “Vivagua”, where we have a very strict quality control unit that verifies it´s development. Our semi-washed process gives it a very sweet flavor, and highlights it´s most important characteristics.
