About the farm:
The farm La Pradera is located in the Laguan community, Dipilto Municipality, 22 km from Ocotal, Department of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua . The slope is ravine surrounded by springs of crystal water. The total area is 60 mz out of which 47mz are with caturra coffee, cultivated under shadow and the rest of the property are hills and pastures with diverse flora and fauna that helps the sustainability of the ecosystem. I was accompanying my father in the cultivation of coffee from my early childhood. We started with only 4 mz and today we cultivate coffee on more than 47 m. The coffee variety that we cultivate is caturra with a production of approximately 1,100 QQ. We also cultivate musaceas.

What is the secret of your success?
The area is excellent for coffee cultivation, it is a God blessing for the temperature, rainfall, fertile soil and all climate conditions that we have. Good agricultural practices; proper coffee picking and wet and dry mill with strict quality control. Immediate transportation from the farm to the dry mill (in 40 min) is possible since the farm is only 22 km from the mill and the road is in a good condition.
How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2010?
I feel satisfied; incentive; motivated to continue my work since the work done so far became visible and respected gradually.
His experience in the Cup of Excellence:
The Cup of Excellence is a competition that promotes coffee farming giving incentive to the coffee producers to produce and harvest high quality coffee. I believe that is a competition where we can get to know our coffee better and compete, and thus, offer it to the better international markets helping the commercialization of the coffee.
