The finca is located in Santos Reyes Nopala, Juquila District, in Oaxaca. The stories told by the parents, uncles and neighbors during the dinners and evening sittings together say that the origin of the finca is in 1873 with the great-grandfather Lorenzo Silva by his mother side. He was associated with Spanish navigator that brought the first seeds and coffee plants from Colombia , this Spaniard convinced to Mr. Silva to plant the coffee because he noticed the similarity of Oaxaca’s mountains with the ones in Colombia where the coffee plantations was raising. Mr. Silva inherited the Finca to Venancia Silva, his grandmother who inherited as well to his son Diego Woolrich. After he passed away, the Finca was managed by his widow and his two sons, Diego and Alfredo. This story has lasted 140 years. Diego and Alfredo are the fourth generation dedicated to grow coffee. Their children, adult now, will be the fifth and when the time comes, they will decide what to do with the beautiful plantations. Having in mind diversifying, since 1990, we have been developing agroforestry by planting different tropical trees for timber like oak, macuil, mahogany and coanacaxtle. In 2006 and 2007 we planted 35 hectares with “primavera” trees and this 2014 we begin to plant an improved hass avocado variety. We have been paying an immense attention to the organic production for preserve and make productive this huge ecosystem.
First of all, means receiving a fair price to the work and the coffee processing, this payment signifies also a payment for preventing the soil of losing its properties with the agriculture, for protecting forests, rainforests, rivers and air that are very important for the whole planet. It means also the recognition of the work made by all of us in the finca. More than a money interchange, this means an opportunity to make relations but in a more fair and equal for everybody.
