The coffee in Mixteca’s region was introduced around 100 years ago. Since then, it has been the main source income for many communities that cultivate coffee. The land ownership is communal, so the land, the plantations and the culture around coffee production has been transmitted from generation to generation.
For us, as women, working the fields is a very hard job, we have two Jobs, one is on the field, and the other one is taking care of the family. We have learned that working in team, expressing our ideas and deciding having in consideration the point of view of other women in the community, is the best way to produce in an organized way. This makes us stronger. Having participated in Cup of Excellence is very important to our community. We are sharing the passion with our daughters with the hope that one day they will have more opportunities than us. We want that the coffee from our community that was cultivated by feminine hands is known and drink in many coffee shops around the world. This coffee represents a lot of work, and our soul and history.
