Overview
The cooperative was founded on June 5, 2001, and has 100 members dedicated to producing and marketing coffee. All are residents of the Las Sabanas region of Madriz. Guided by the need to find other sources of employment, the cooperative has sought to secure financing from national organizations to support projects related to cattle farming and agriculture so that today we can say that we implement these activities too. The coffee that our cooperative produces is certified organic by OCIA International. Our cooperative members farms are between 1,200 and 1,400 meters of altitude, with extensive shade that contributes to the quality of our coffee. The application of organic fertilizer and careful management including the use of screens, a careful selection of the coffee, in addition to better care and drying also form part of the quality process. My name is Victor Cali, I am the president of the cooperative and for us, being among the list of winners of the Cup of Excellence is an opportunity that we hadnt had to sell our coffee for better prices and we hope that our work now with ATLANTIC will enable us to consolidate these opportunities. We feel that this is an excellent motivation for the members to work even harder in improving the quality of our coffee. As a cooperative, weve set a goal of winning first place in next years competition; were looking to find a variety of coffee that will let us finish in first place.
