Orlando Carbajal and Consuelo Bonilla history: since I was very young, I always dreamed of being a coffee producer. When I got married with my wife, my beloved spouse, and partner in life Consuelo Bonilla, we used to sit down to talk and make plans about our future. I did not have the economic capacity to undertake any type of business and much less, what we had in mind: to produce large quantities of coffee. Because of this it became necessary for to go abroad, in search of a noble work, to solve my family's economic position, and thus get money to start our business. I was in the USA for two years, of hard work, and then returned to Honduras to pursue the dream that as a family we intended to achieve. It was a fairly difficult period because it required a fight and time investment, work and money for several years to obtain the expected results.
When we had different varieties of coffee-producing farms, our vision changed. We had the opportunity to meet people who helped us discover many qualities in our café and thus be able to position ourselves in North American and Asian markets. Our objective changed and we inclined to produce quality coffee and not on quantity, which with the help of God, hard work and discipline, has given us as a result, one of the winners in the cup of excellence, with the TYPICA variety, located at a height of 1,600 meters above sea level
FAMILY HISTORY:
Tenemos 25 años de dedicarnos a la producción de café, pero hasta hace aproximadamente 5 años trabajamos en la industria de cafés de calidad.
We have dedicated 25 years to coffee production, but until about 5 years ago we began to work in the quality coffee production.
WHAT WERE THE TECHNIQUES IMPLEMENTED THAT MADE YOU A WINNER OF THE CUP OF EXCELLENCE PROGRAM? Disinfect the soil to make the nursery. Apply lime to the soil to balance the acidity of the same. Fertilize and spray. Regulate the shadow. Daily pulping (thus the grain not over fermented). In this way, my spouse and I care about the attributes and qualities of our coffee.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ONE OF THE WINNERS OF THE CUP OF EXCELLENCE 2018? It’s a huge and indescribable feeling, to be certain to trust in God, to love and have passion for what we do, gives extraordinary fruits, and to be in the top 10 of the best coffees of Honduras motivates me even more to continue to expand my knowledge to improve each year the quality of our coffee.
WHAT WILL THE REVENUES THAT YOU OBTAIN FROM THIS PROJECT INVEST?
I will invest part in the improvement of the facilities for the coffee beneficiary, to have better hygiene conditions, and improve the techniques for the proper functioning of the coffee washing and drying.
Another part to work on family projects and invest in the education of my daughters.

This is the first time we participated, my family and I, and we are more than grateful to God and the technicians for giving us the blessing and support that helped us to participate in this program.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CUP OF EXCELLENCE?
It is an opportunity for Honduran producers to get to know the quality of our coffees, in addition, it promotes national and international competitiveness and promotes the improvement in quality, it also helps in positioning our country as a benchmark in coffee quality at world level.
IN WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO INVEST THE REVENUES YOU GET OUT OF THIS PROJECT? I will invest a part in the improvement of the facilities for the processing of my coffee, to have better higenic conditions and improve techniques for the proper processing and drying of my coffee. It is an opportunity for the Honduran producers to know the quality of our coffees, in addition, promotes national and international competitiveness and promotes improvement in quality, also help in the positioning of our country as a reference in the quality of coffee worldwide.
