La Laguna farm is located in Canton Los Planes, municipality of Citala, department of Chalatenango, it has an area of 24 hectares and the altitude is between 1500 to 1700 meters above sea level (masl). It has 4 upwelling of water including a lagoon of 1800 square meters which feeds the source that supplies drinking water to the community of Citala (which in Nahuatl means River of stars) with a population of 3000 inhabitants. It also has a forest reserve of 10.5 hectares of cypress planted by their own initiative and a natural forest of 2.1 hectares. The coffee plantation is handled with adequate shade, recepa and fertilizers that are applied according to the previous program to maintain a good production.
The property has been in possession of our family for three generations: The first generation at the beginning of the last century used to graze cattle during the summer, and the second generation planted small plots of corn, beans, tomato, potato, onion, garlic and fruit (orange, banana, avocado, peach) and as an alternative crop variety coffee Arabica, whose production was exclusively for family consumption. In 1995 and 1996 I developed two plant nurseries: one of 10.000 plants of Bourbón variety and another of 7.000 plants of Pacamara variety that were planted in an area of 3.5 hectares with a production of 40 quintals of Pacamara and 60 quintals of Bourbón. Actually is currently growing a new area with Pacamara variety.
