History of the farm
Sítio d’Água Limpa belongs to a group of children and grandchildren who acquired areas near their mother’s farm, Rancho São Benedito, where high-quality coffees, awarded at several Brazilian competitions, are grown.
The family is concerned about the environment. The property has fertile soils and forest reserves to preserve native vegetation, thus ensuring good water and a vast area for wild animals. The farm borders city roads, where the workers have their own houses, get health care, enjoy a recreational area and have access to public education.
Coffee processing system
Due to the topography, and to maintain quality, the harvest is selective and is done by hand over cloths to avoid the cherries touching the ground. Then the coffee is taken to the processing patio to be washed and spread for drying. Drying occurs on concrete patios under the sun until the coffee reaches the ideal humidity and becomes uniform. If necessary, drying may be finished in the mechanical dryer.
The beans are carefully raked 15 to 20 times per day.
After this, the coffee is taken to wooden rest boxes to rest for a period of 30 days. Following this rest period, the beans are processed and separated into lots and then stored at Cocarive’s warehouse in Carmo de Minas. There they are graded and cupped by specialists at Cocarive’s export department, which has a laboratory with graders and cuppers to offer very high quality lots to the market.
Concern about quality
The Rancho São Benedito family has placed among the finalists in the Cup of Excellence many times. In the Pulped Naturals category, it was a finalist in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, reaching the top 10 several times. In 2011, it achieved 2nd place in the first edition of the Naturals category in Brazil in 2011 and was a finalist in 2013. The family has also achieved numerous awards in other regional and national coffee quality competitions.
