Name and Location of the Farm:
The farm Ojo de Agua is located in La Laguna, in the Municipality of Mozonte, about 26 km from the head of the department of Nueva Segovia (Ocotal), where the farm is located has an attractive view, from the other farms in the community and to the hill El Volcano. The Farm is surrounded by a vast area of jungle Virgin and animal species few seen in the area, characteristic of the Cordillera Dipilto-Jalapa.
Tell us The Farm History:
It was purchased in the year 1980s by my father Mr. Francisco Gonzalez Herrera who at that time was the first to initiate the production of coffee in the municipality of Mozonte, in that time was a mountain of rustic roads and inaccessible. The farm has about 30 Apples of land in total and is was an inherit received from my dad when he died in 2012.
In its best years, the farm produced up to 650 quintals of green coffee and currently it is producing about 120 Quintals, as it is under renovation.
Coffee Varieties which are produce: Caturra, Yellow and Maracaturra Catuaí.
The family consists of 4 members, my wife, me and my 2 kids.
What is your secret for winning the competition?
1 – First of the best secret has been to trust in God.
2 – Good agricultural practices (cutting and wet mill processing)
3 – Excellent agroclimatic conditions in which is located the estate, is the Mountain range Dipilto-Jalapa and above the pristine mountains Mozonte.
4 – Heights ranging from 1350-1700 mosl.
How do you feel to have been a winner?
I feel blissful to have gotten an award more, over to keep producing the best coffee from Mozonte, and achieve goals, we knew we produce quality but had never competed until we started to work with Beneficio Las Segovias and guided us how to grow our coffee and following the tips to win this 4th place.
What do you think about the Cup of Excellence?
It’s a great benefit to the producer. Motivates to the producer to be released in the market with its quality also helps the economy of Nicaragua positioning producer and as a producer of one of the best Coffee.
