Overview
Located in the magnificent San Salvador Volcano, Santa Isabel rests as a splendid and beautiful farm standing at an average altitude of 1,400 meters above sea level. Its 90 hectares of rich volcanic soils and pleasant cool temperature, along to the abundant rainfall and sunlight, create the perfect microclimate for coffee cultivation. Santa Isabel is cultivated with Bourbón, which is the heirloom variety of El Salvador , and widely recognized by providing outstanding cup notes, being sweetness one of its most enjoyable traits.
Santa Isabel bears the name of a beautiful Colombia n lady: Isabel Perez, who came to El Salvador along to her family in the middle of the 19th century. In 1872, Dr. Emilio Alvarez, member of a Colombia n coffee producing family, fell in love with Isabel and followed her pathway to El Salvador . Later on, Santa Isabel was inherited by their daughter, Ms. Maria Alvarez and finally by Dr. Alvarez grandson, Jeff Holman Alvarez, who as a third generation of coffee producers, continues with this two centuries old tradition. Currently, Santa Isabel is producing about 1,500 bags of exportable quality coffee, which is also Rainforest Alliance Certified.
We would say our continuous commitment with quality has paid off this year by classifying among the winners of Cup of Excellence. Our secret to get this kind of results is actually work hard, having a well-planned agricultural work plan and stick to it during the year, along with the careful and selective picking of only ripe cherries.
We are thankful to the initiative of the Alliance for Coffee Excellence for promoting and showcasing the great quality of coffees that each country produces.
We feel fortunate for having this achievement this year but we also feel challenged to keep our continuous improvement program in order to get the best quality of coffee from our farms for many more crops ahead.
