La Merced is a traditional coffee farm located in San Martin Jilotepeque is a small town in Chimaltenango. On that farm is produced strictly hard bean high quality coffee. Actually the farm is managed by the third generation of Alburez family. La Merced is a family property inherited from one generation to another, since 1832 when it was bought for Mr. Francisco Alburez and inherited to Mrs. Maria Alburez de Ortega. On the beginning La Merced produced corn and black beans. Later, on 1912 Mr. Carlos Ortega planted the first Bourbón coffee plants, the beginning of a traditional high quality coffee production. Committed to the flora and fauna, as well as to producing exceptional coffee, we have planted our coffee under shade trees. The forest hills of pine, cypress, Holm oak and oak, combine with approximately 20 hectares of reforestation, help to preserve water sources and river. The main house has a beautiful vegetable and flower garden. The owners of La Merced keep also local traditions, such as St. Isidore Farmer festivity on May 15th, a party day on the farm and in the closer area.
