Our family, by generations, by heritance, has been dedicated to the coffee production from the “semilleros” (seedlings), the confection of “almacigos” (seedbeds) to the coffee plantation one year later.
We produce coffee in the highlands of Naranjo, Alajuela. The weather is warm, moderately rainy; in other words it is perfect for coffee production.
We own three farms: La Casa (The House), Zapote and Fidel; with the last one, we obtained the first award in Cup of Excellence last year.
Our father and grandfather bought the Farm Santa Lucia La Casa, 65 years ago. We have special affection to this farm, because we were born there and meant a great effort to bring up the property, because at that time there was no electricity or water; the roads were in poor conditions and oxcarts carried the little coffee produced.
Our perseverance, effort and struggle come from our ancestors and so the love for the coffee production from our great great grandfather Florindo Seguro. He used to say that coffee had something special, because of the profits it brought to many humble families.
We are grateful to the Cup of Excellence and buyers of these lots because thanks to them the careful work on the processes has been recognized. For us, this is very satisfying, we feel that all the sacrifices has not been in vain, coffee is a product that has definitely something special.
We have worked a lot in this farm doing roads and planting new coffee trees. We have years of planting coffee in the farm and still have field to plant. The foreign visitors enjoy accessing it; there is river and lot of nature in the land. Our region is characterized by volcanic soils and the town is very quiet.
In 2009 we managed the neighbor micro mill that won Cup of Excellence in 2006. This gave us the experience of processing their and our coffee. It was our school, our college.
To this harvest 2012-2013, we decided to set our own machinery and backyard greenhouse for the sun drying. After some cupping, we decided to participate in CoE with two samples of coffee; one of them was selected between the 22 winners.
After winning the first place last year, we were excited to participate this year. It is a huge motivation, like vaccine of a strength and effort to keep improving.
We have waited for this project for years. It is thanks to this that we do as individuals as it requires lot of strength and dedication. It is our passion.
