Overview
Embedded right in the heart of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Mountain Range, there is the Nejapa I farm. This is a farm with a total of 14 hectares and it is located on the western region of El Salvador . The farms altitude of over 1,400 meters above sea level and its soil of volcanic nature provides this farm with all the rightful conditions for a great quality coffee harvesting. The farm is owned by Juan Carlos Gregg Meza, a fourth generation coffee producer who has been managing directly the coffee production of his farms for over ten years. Nejapa was originally one property, owned by Mr. Pedro Meza, Juan Carlos grandfather who taught him about all the coffee production process. At the time Mr. Meza decided to inherit the farm, he passed it to Juan Carlos and his brother, Francisco, dividing the property in half. That is the reason they have called portions Nejapa 1 and 2, to identify each ones property. Nejapa 1 is an interesting cocktail of varieties, since the plantation is composed of Bourbón, Pacamara and Catimor trees. The Pacamara coffee grown at Nejapa 1 produces a very refined and complex cup with chocolate notes, which are the result of the perfect microclimate conditions that allow coffee cherries to fully develop its outstanding organoleptic characteristics. The farm is located at Canton Palo Verde in Apaneca rising at above 1,475 meters above sea level. The farms total annual production is about 130 bags of 68 kg., of which approximately 10 bags are Pacamara. Harvesting time usually takes place in January and February. Social responsibility and environmental friendly practices is the philosophical base of alt the works performed at this farm. Currently, there is a crew of 15 men and women from the surrounding community of Apaneca, who have a permanent job all year round, obtaining wages above law requirements. All of the farm workers are profoundly convinced of Juan Carlos´philosophy of continuous quality improvement, while at the same time persevering natural treasures, Juan Carlos, as an agronomist himself, is highly committed to continue producing coffee under innovative agricultural practices that will enhance yield, but will preserve the great quality of his coffees. He is convinced that by producing excellent quality coffees is his best contribution to promote Cafe de El Salvador for more generations to come!
