Overview
Ten years ago Jose Acylino de Lima Neto, who before that had practiced medicine in Rio de Janeiro, bought a farm and named it after his mother, thus realizing a long-held dream to work the land. The property was already planted in coffee and had installations designed for this activity. In the years following his purchase, the farm focused on producing natural coffee and milk, always seeking high quality in both products. A special group of workers was selected during this period, and currently they belong to a partnership that guarantees them all an equal share of profit from the activity. The well-being of personnel and strict preservation of the environment are priorities for Fazenda Djanira. Part of the area devoted to coffee includes about 10,000 plants of the Yellow Bourbon variety. The farm is located at an altitude of about 1,100 meters and has always produced a very good beverage. About 5 years ago Jose Acylino married Edilene Pereira de Castro, whose family owns Fazenda Tijuco Preto. In recent years they have been highly ranked in various competitions for growers of specialty coffees. Encouraged by these results, the grower elected to devote part of his production to Yellow Bourbon and is now competing in the Cup of Excellence competition organized by the Brazil Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA).
