Ojo de Agua Estate, Ocotal Daniel Canales Ojo de Agua has been one of the most productive farms of Esteli (in Pueblo Nuevo). In 2004 it won the first place in the cup of excellence. Since then, Don Denis Canales has achieved to negotiate better prices for his coffee and reinvest to give incentives and benefits to his workers. We are simple people... I never thought I was gong to win... They even call me many times I could not believe it says Don Denis, who was able to sell each quintal (100 pounds) of his precious coffee at the price of US$1,200. This has been the highest price ever accomplished by a Nicaragua n during the whole history of the cup of excellence He refers to his family saying: I owe it everything to God and to my wife who has always supported me as well as to my sons Norman y Milton, they help to manage the farm. Denis Canales also owns extensive lands where he grows other type of crops and cattle, where he gets the manure for the coffee plantations. Now the challenge and commitment is even bigger regarding reforestation. The Canales family is one step forward, getting ready to produce more in the next coffee cycle.
