Warmisita - BV History At 69 years of age, with ten children and thirteen grandchildren, Alejandra Ramos Ticona de Montano is producing excellent coffees. Alejandra explains that she has produced coffee for more than fifty years and with the help of her husband Cervando Montano and her ten children she established the Montano farm located in Coroico. Although the Montano family has participated in previous Cup of Excellence competitions, this is the first time that they have made it to the International Jury. Ive always worked to obtain a quality coffee and always wanted to win. This is really a dream come true. With my husband we have always hoped to sell our coffee to other countries and with this auction well be able to. Because of this I am very happy and motivated to keep producing more and more coffee. Alejandra explained that now she needs to keep producing coffee and renewing her old coffee plantations, Now I want to keep working because I have to look out for my grandchildren and my children. We are all in this together from my smallest grandchild to my oldest son. The Montano family is a living example of unity and strength, demonstrating that working as a team one can get far. We have always taught our children the value of hard work and we also want to instill in our grandchildren a desire to continue this tradition of coffee cultivation which my husband, Cervando, and I began 50 years ago. Quality Practices The ripe coffee cherry harvest is done manually, process in which the whole family intervenes during the four months that the harvest takes place, from May to September; the coffee cherry is immersed in water in order to do the first selection of vain coffee beans. The pulping is done in a mechanical depulper daily, immediately after harvest. The coffee is fermented for 15 hours, time in which the mucilage is separated. The coffee is manually washed with clean water coming from the slopes of the mountains. The coffee is then sun dried on raised platforms.
