Located in Northern Province, Gakenke district, COOPAC Coffee washing station works closely with different coffee growers from sectors located near the Coffee Washing Station including Muyongwe, Muhondo Coko and Rushashi and Rulindo sectors, farmers located near the coffee washing station supply cherries to the washing station.
Farmers work hands in hands together with the coffee washing stations and they established a strong relationship with the Coffee washing station. The result is the coffee of high quality produced by this Coffee washing station. As result of our dedicated and commitment to quality different coffee lots have obtained different competitions awards including thi year Cup of Excellence 2015, where it ranked at the 5th place. Beside the Cup of Excellence competitions, the CWS performed well at national level as well obtained other international recognition.
Production and Quality Processes
Coffee beans are strictly high grown by using good agriculture practices, soils is very rich in nutrients, the coffee is grown under structurally and floristically diverse shades which cover them and only organic fertilizers are applied and less harmful alternatives to pesticides and fungicides. Both these organic practices of using organic fertilizers and planting shade tree go along way in providing not only the necessary plant nutrition but also assist in providing the complex nutrient balance of our coffee fields which is definitely required to produce nutrient rich fruit.
COOPAC Gakenke, washing stations is able to meet specialty coffee requirements using efficient steps of wet processing:
- Careful sorting by hand and floating for removing cherries with defects
- Removal of foreign matter
- Wet processing
- Drying and hand sorting of any defect beans
- Polishing Parchment coffee
