Located in El Cedral, Las Vegas, Sta. Barbara, coffee is the main product in this zone, and it marks the economy of this town. Nice, cool weather, located in a specialty coffee region of Los Andes, next to Mount Maroncho, within the buffer zone of National Park of Santa Barbara Mountain. Tourism is also a big part of this community, hiking trails and extraordinary landscapes. In Los Naranjos, a community nearby, one can visit an eco-archeological national park were the Lenca civilization flourished. Extensive gardens filled with orchids and heliconias, diversity of birds such as woodpeckers, parrots and humming birds, famous for fresh brewed flavored beer and soft drinks made of the fruits grown in those same mountains. Miguel works his farm using different techniques for managing coffee, weed and pest control, shade regulation, fertilization, selective trimming of the trees, manual harvest, wet mill and solar dryers. About his familyHe began growing his coffee collectively with his family 25 years ago, and in 1995 he becomes independent with half an hectare and he now owns 3.5 hectares of coffee plantation.
