History of the farm
Producer Mr. Vicente Jacinto, and his son Horacio Antonio de Moura, jointly run the property Sitio Três Barras in Simonesia, Minas Gerais, in a region where specialty coffees are becoming recognized. Vicente and Horacio’s property has been in the family for 6 generations and began to produce specialty coffees in 2003. Since then, they have always sought to produce a high-quality product. Great-grandfather Luiz Amorim came to the lands, tamed them, and planted coffee fields. At that time, the variety was known as Moca and was planted on a high hill. Horacio remembers that when he was a child the family washed the coffees in a stone mill. Nowadays, with modern techniques, he is dedicated to producing specialty coffees of several varieties. The property has wooden rest boxes where the coffee is stored after it has been processed. It has concrete patios and African beds. After the coffee is picked, it is taken to the wet mill to be washed, separated, pulped and spread for drying. The first specialty coffee produced on the farm scored 86 points, a scored given at that time by the Matas de Minas Specialty Coffee Producers Association. It was tasted by cuppers in Viçosa, including by current Federal Deputy Evair de Melo. Before producing their first specialty coffee, the producers had always sought to produce the best coffee possible from their harvests. The property is near the Mata do Sossego preserve, which has the largest primate in the Americas, the Northern muriqui, about which biologist and researcher Richard Rasmussen has made films.

Wet method – pulped natural. The coffee is dried on a cement patio and finished in a mechanical dryer.
Concern about quality
One third of the farm comprises a registered forest reserve, where large areas of riparian forests can be found. These areas protect springs, acting as physical barriers around them and improving the quality of the water, bringing many benefits to the farm and the environment.
