Overview:
The name “La Pila“ comes from an old pila used for washing clothes.
It is located in Aldea El Durazno in Palencia department of Guatemala , the place means “Peaches”.
The altitude starts at 4,000 feet above sea level to 5,000 feet. The varieties are Borboun, Caturra, Pache, Catuaí and Typiza. The trees use for shade are gravilea, cuje and avocado. The water use for the mill comes from a natural water spring in the farm. The water comes from tree plantation it has over 1/3 of its land in forestry protection.
The high grown coffee is dried in patios and for the low grown coffee a dryer machine is used.
We have a depulper that uses low amount of water and the used water is evaporated and the remains are given to worms to make compost that later is used in the nursery.
At the farm five families are living they have electricity, water, and wood.
They plant beans in between the coffee trees. The raining season is hard but short, the earth is rocky clay with high mineral content.
