Overview

In K’iche’ language CAYBAL means lookout, PA is a prefix indicating “at the place”, the farm takes its name from local tradition when people pass through the farm of being at the lookout; PACAYBAL. Overlooking the coastal deparments of Escuintla and Suchitepequez, high above the Yatza river, nestled between the Chochahau small volume volcano and San Pedro Volcano and neighbouring the small community of Pasajquim in one of the most remote and abandoned municipalities in Solola the farm is reminiscent of early 20th century farming. Coffee is still transported by mule, nights lit by gas lanterns and a farmhouse built in the 1940’s, PACAYBAL is a living postcard of an earlier time. With a total area of one hundred and six (106) hectares, forty-five (45) producing coffee between 1,500 - 1,700 meters (4,920 - 5,580 feet) above sea level. Avocados have been planted on fifteen (15) aditional hectares and the rest kept with natural forest and deep ravines, a high annual rainfall of between 6,000 - 7,000 mm per year, relative humidity of 80% and an average temperature of 19°C (66.2°F) all provide a favorable and unique micro-climate for producing superior quality coffee.
