Don Pedro Moreno is 86 years old and is one of the founders of the village El Cedral, Santa Barbara, in which he lives. He is a producer of coffee and started his farm in 1983 with the money he earned cultivating different types of vegetables. He planted less than 1 hectare, don Pedro mentions that in those times to work with coffee was very difficult, there was no funding for the management of farms and the prices were very bad. They paid 13 lempiras per 100 pounds of coffee beans, wet but that didn't stop the enthusiasm of Don Pedro and he continued working to support his family. For the year 2008 Don Pedro had already heard about the quality of the coffees in the area and received advice to participate in the competition of Cup of Excellence in which he came in 2nd place. Since then he has participated on several occasions finishing in good positions. Don Pedro has now 8.4 hectares of coffee and has supported his children so that they have their own coffee plots and while acknowledging that farms are now more productive, the aggressiveness of pests and diseases and the costs are very high, as last year he had strong problems with rust and beetle borer, with the money he receives from his coffee, he expects to renew parts of the farm that need improvements.
